Blackbird
The SCARPA Blackbird is the most complex climbing shoe we've ever made. At its core: a
proprietary Pebax-Carbon-fibre midsole — years of prototyping distilled into a single,
uncompromising platform. Built for rock. Built for one thing.
On routes, the Blackbird's rigid platform absorbs a higher proportion of the effort so your feet and arms don't have to — keeping you fresher for longer. On boulders, it's a precision tool for the impossible hold: the foothold that shouldn't work, on the line that shouldn't go. This is not an indoor shoe. Not a competition shoe. This is a toe-driven rock shoe — full stop.
At its heart lies a unique midsole — the definitive combination of material, thickness,
geometry and length. The choice of Pebax-Carbon fibre over pure carbon is deliberate: it
delivers superior flex resistance, performing under load without the brittleness of a pure
carbon construction. Ultra-stiff underfoot, the support levels are unparalleled — but stiffness has a cost. Under lesser loads, where the midsole can't conform to the rock, the Vibram XS Grip2 does the work: soft enough to grip where a harder rubber would lift or slip.
The upper is built to defy expectation. A stretch microfibre and Alcantara multi-panel
construction delivers near out-of-the-box usability — a shoe this stiff has no business being this comfortable. That comfort is engineered, not accidental: the Ilga rubber SF tension system drives focus into the toe box, eliminating unwanted lateral movement under load, while the under-arch slingshot closure delivers the most secure midfoot fit SCARPA has produced to date. At the front, the M50 hood ensures class-leading rubber coverage for toe hooks and foot cams — working in tandem with the stretch upper to keep the toe box forgiving, even when well knuckled.
33 separate components. A limited production run. The Blackbird is a statement of what
becomes possible when SCARPA's design and manufacturing expertise is focused, without
restraint, on a single unambiguous goal.
